It was dark far too dark, she couldn't even see her hand as she waved it in front of her eyes. She felt along the wall as she continued on, not knowing where she was heading or where she had come from. Her eyes flicked back towards the direction she came from. She was greeted by the same sight she saw when facing the direction she was headed...
Darkness, pure and oppressing darkness.
It was strange, she thought, she remembered being someplace else. She remembered a bright and flowing field of yellow and blue wild flowers. She recalled fluttering flags hanging resplendent with colors more varying than a rainbow and brighter than gold. She remembered men a horse with shields blazoned with shapes, a lion, a bear, even a manticore.
She didn't know why she remembered these things, she had been in these dark and oppressive halls since before she could remember. Maybe she saw these things these colors and the brightness from her dreams. Maybe, she thought, maybe she was dreaming now. Regardless she some how knew it was best for her if she continued on heading away from where she started. Sometimes when she slept she could see a face. A kind and motherly face, with grey blue eyes and dark auburn almost copper colored hair, and a dimpled smile filled with joy and love when their eyes met, but still no name would come to her.
She shook her head and continued down the hall, she was at least growing more comfortable in the darkness. Whether that was good or bad, she assumed wasn't for her to decide, so she kept going one hand on the wall and the other swinging idly at her side.
On and on into the darkness.
Occasionally she felt the need to run so she did, and sometimes she grew tired so she would lay down and sleep, but she never hungered. She thought that was odd, but again it had always been that way so she put it to the back of her mind and continued on.
Sometimes she thought she was heading upwards as if climbing a hill, and sometimes it felt as if she were heading downwards which made the going easier she figured. She smiled as she began moving down a small incline, it had always been like that so she just kept walking in the dark, towards where she didn't know, but that wasn't for her to decide.
