A Field of Blood and Fire Part 1

A shot rang out in the night like a crack of thunder, deafening to the ears of those around. A few ducked but Jaxin remained standing briefly before slumping to the ground. Rati, gasped as she was faced with the bloody face of Jaxin, a small hole in his forehead, she pushed back away from the fallen Jaxin, “sniper!”

“Shit!,” Andre shouted as he levelled his own rifle in the direction the bullet came from, “I don’t see him captain.”

“Rati pop smoke!” Captain Gregor shouted.

“Yes sir,” Rati called back and pulled a pin from a heavy greyish green canister and tossed it in front of the group.

Gregor crouched and squeezed off a blast of bullets, “covering fire! Get to the trees.”
Both Rati and Andre fired off a pair of rounds from their rifles, as well as the two other soldiers that were with them, Chandra and Tobi, the group staggered towards the treeline. A second shot rang out and Tobi dropped to the ground a hole ripped right through his throat. A third shot ricocheted off of a tree just above Rati’s head and she cursed.

“Get a bead on the sniper Andre?” Gregor asked.

“Aye captain just give me a moment,” Andre said as he twisted a knob on the top og his scope, “I see you.”

Andre’s gun cracked and snapped back, “got him captain.”

“Good,” Gregor responded, “Chandra, send a present over that way.”

“Yes sir,” Chandra responded as she levelled a rocket launcher to he shoulder. A pop and a loud screeching pill the size of a tennis ball trailed smoke across the field. A huge red ball of flame erupted on the other side of the field followed by a second and a third.

“Cluster rocket is go captain,” Chandra reported.

“Good let’s circle the clearing,” Gregor responded as he levelled his rifle tohis shoulder and stalked off through the underbrush.
